Squidoo and SEO

If you want to use Squidoo to promote your website or products that you sell, then you will want to make sure that your are optimising how the search engines will view your Squidoo lens (page).

Google ads are placed on the pages automatically by Squidoo themselves, so you have no control whatsoever of these.  As they do not charge for their services, this is how they make their money.  The problem with this is that people will click on these ads and therefore leave your page, usually never to return.

There are ways and means of controlling aspects of your Squidoo page, or lens as it is known.  Basically it is up to you to decide which keywords to optimise for which will then show up on Google.  This is a proactive way of making sure the search engine spiders visit your page.  Three percent is the optimal keyword density you should use on your site.

By bolding some of these keywords on your page, the search engines will them know that you have placed emphasis on them.  If you wanted you could also highlight your keyword in some other way such as Italics once per post.  Your chosen keyword should also be placed in bold once at the beginning of your lens content and once at the end.

Placing the main keyword in the title and url is another way of making sure you stay in favour with the search engines.  If you have to separate words in the url, it is best to do so using hyphens instead of underscores.  Ensure you have linked all your lenses together by placing them in the blog rolls of the relevant lenses; Google will find all the lenses easier this way.

Getting many backlinks to your lens will also ensure that it achieves a steady rise in the search engine rankings.  Comments on other users sites is a good way of getting backlinks.  If you use the above tips, then it will not be long before your lens begins showing up on Google.
